The DACE (Department of Extracurricular Activities) is in charge of organizing, coordinating and promoting cultural activities which fall outside the realm of the normal curriculum, both during school time – complementary to the lessons – and outside school time as extra-school activities. The aim in both cases is to organise and carry out events which can help students learn and assimilate the foreign language they study at the Escuela Oficial de Idiomas.

The DACE is cross curricular/cross departmental in nature, hence its crucial importance as the cohesive tissue among students, teachers, and service and administrative staff at the Escuela Oficial de Idiomas Alcalá de Guadaíra. Moreover, this Department allows the establishment of links between the School and the municipality through cultural activities and through funding agreements with the Town Council of Alcalá de Guadaíra for different activities.

Watching a film in original version (with or without subtitles) provides a great opportunity to practise listening comprehension. The choice of film to watch is justified by its relevance within the contents of the curriculum. Currently, the Escuela Oficial de Idiomas has an agreement with Avenida 5 Cines and other cinema theatres to allow reduced ticket prices for students.

Travelling to the country where a language is spoken is the best way to put it into practise.
